It is now less than 10 days before my trip to South Korea. My flight leaves on Oct. 26 at 1 a.m. and lands in Beijing. I have an eight hour layover in Beijing, so I am planning exactly what I'll do for my layover. The airport I am landing in has an express train that goes right into downtown Beijing, so I am able to turn a trip to Seoul, Taejon, Inchon, and Busan, into an additional trip into Beijing.

You might be thinking that eight hours isn't a whole lot of time to see one of the oldest cities in the world. Well, it isn't. Not even close. My return layover, however, will give me nearly a full day to visit the city. On Nov. 2, I will have a 22 hour layover and will visit the city again and cover even more ground and visit more places. All in all, it will be about 24 hours of sightseeing.

The train I'm taking will send me very close to the Palace Museum, which is close to Tiananmen Square and the Tiananmen entrance into the Forbidden City.

By the time I come back home, I hope to have seen enough of Beijing to at least whet my appetite. I'll be blogging during my trip to South Korea, so stay posted.
