Not all dreams come true, but no dream comes true when you give up. I would leave you with that, but that would be dumb. Everyone already knows that (cue the GEICO commercial).
What does it take to give up? It doesn't take much. You simply stop doing what you're doing. You simply stop working. You simply stop dedicating yourself to a task. It is easy. It is simple. You just end.
People want life to be easy and there is nothing sinister about that. Why not want it that way? Why not live the rest of your life in vacation mode? Wouldn't that be something?
We have all heard the phrase, "Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life."
I love that phrase because that is what I aspire to do - never work. I think that is the hope for a lot of us. To not work. We want to do what we love.
Well, if you really want to do that, then you have to not do what is easy, which is give up.
In order to never work a day in your life, or at least the rest of your life, then you have to work really hard. You have to bust your butt to reach vacation mode. It takes blood, sweat and tears to finally get to do what you love and only what you love.
The fact is that you have to become great at your craft (i.e. your love). And the only way to do that is to put the time in. You have to put in the effort. And it is NOT easy. There is the difference.
It is almost an oxymoron. You have to work hard to take it easy for the rest of your life, but you have to take it easy to work hard for the rest of your life. That, in itself, is the power behind giving up.
Giving up relinquishes your power to pursue your dreams. It dwindles you down to nothing. It forces you to begrudge every day. If you think giving up doesn't take anything, just think of all you will lose once you do give up. What a disastrous life that would be. A life full of no inspiration and no drive. That's no way to live. Then again, giving up doesn't really afford you much of a life.
My goal in life is to never give up. To never lose sight of my dreams. And to work hard for every single day I will get to take it easy. I hope you will join me.
